It’s the simple things that make a difference and this is no different when we guide and support our babies especially newborns to sleep. 😴
Our little ones maybe be very little but right from the minute they enter this world it’s new and exciting but also possibly overwhelming. 🤱
I’m going to share with you a few tips that will help your little one gain more confidence around their sleep especially settling.
1- Talking and having a conversation with your baby.
you might think that they are too little but verbally communicating with your baby is very important.
You talk to your animals so why not talk to your baby.
You pets will never talk back to you but as your baby grows they certainly will. 👄
Now this is especially with settling.
Little things like when you are walking to their bed or room you can chat and say.
“Mummy is going to put you to bed now”
Placing your baby in their swaddle or sleeping bag
“You are going to be snug as a bug in a rug for your sleep”
Once wrapped while placing them in bed.
“You are going to have a little snooze and mummy will see you in (a few minutes😉) when you wake up”
2 – How to place your little one in bed. 🧸
One of my absolute go to is swaddling or placing your baby in their sleeping in their bed or just before they go to bed.
Swaddling or placing them in their sleeping bag then feeding and then finally putting them in their bed is not the best. Their swaddles and sleeping bags are sleeping tools not feeding tools.
3- Saying good night and sleep tight. 🙏
Once your baby is in bed only then close the curtains.
They are in bed in a room that they are familiar with and recognise. As you kiss them goodnight and say goodnight then close the curtains. This will give them the realisation that it’s sleep.
These might sound very simple steps to implement if you haven’t already but doing this at every sleep time both for naps and the bedtime ( not during the night) it will start to become a sign for them to relax and go to sleep.
Remember consistency using positive actions creates sustainable patterns and more awareness. 🥰
